New OPP Facility Opens In Temagami

    McGuinty Government Improving Community Safety

    TORONTO, Sept. 4 /CNW/ -

    NEWS

Residents of Temagami will be better served with the opening of a new
Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) detachment.
The new 4,500-square-foot building will allow the OPP to more effectively
serve the community's needs by consolidating the entire detachment, including
the marine unit, previously spread over three buildings.
The new facility offers ample space to accommodate OPP officers,
civilians and volunteer members who serve the community, and features upgraded
telephone and information technology systems and other modern supports to meet
changing technology and policing requirements.

    QUOTES

"The McGuinty government is supporting Ontario's front-line police
officers with the tools and resources to keep our communities safe. This new
facility is an excellent example of that support," said Community Safety and
Correctional Services Minister Rick Bartolucci
(http://www.mcscs.jus.gov.on.ca/english/about_min/bio.html).
"This new consolidated facility will not only provide an up-to-date
workplace for our police service, it will also be a tremendous asset to the
community," said MPP David Ramsay (http://www.davidramsay.com/).
"The OPP assigned its first officer to Temagami in 1926. This modern
detachment will enable the OPP to carry on its proud tradition of policing in
the region with improved efficiency," said OPP Commissioner Julian Fantino
(http://opp.ca/Organization/Commissioner/index.htm).
