Ernie Eves government wins big at the 2003 ITX Awards

QUEEN'S PARK, ON, June 13 /CNW/ - The Government of Ontario has won two
key awards at the 2003 ITX Awards held in Toronto. The Land Information
Ontario (LIO) initiative won a Collaboration Award and the Business Leadership
Award was given to the Justice Technology Services (JTS) Major Case Management
initiative.
"The Government of Ontario continues to lead the way in innovative,
creative and efficient ways in which to do business and serve the public,"
Chair of Management Board of Cabinet and Minister of Culture, David H.
Tsubouchi said. "These awards affirm what we've known all along - the
Government of Ontario is a leader in electronic service delivery."
The LIO initiative excelled in all categories - business value, IT
leadership, collaboration and business leadership, and was named the overall
2003 ITX Award Winner. It created an electronic index that people and
businesses across Ontario and around the globe can access to find geographic
information about Ontario in minutes. From fish species in Fenelon Falls to
wetlands in Wawa to provincial parks in Parry Sound, the system offers direct,
secure Internet access to geographic information to users across the globe. It
also enables individuals to create and print online maps.
"LIO gives individuals and businesses the ability to access in minutes
the kind of land information that would have taken days or even weeks to
access previously," says Greg Georgeff, Corporate Chief Information Officer,
Management Board Secretariat. "Ontario is a pioneer in the delivery of
e-government services, and this initiative is a key accomplishment."
The Major Case Management Initiative assists criminal investigators in
Ontario to collect, manage, retrieve, and analyze large volumes of
investigative data in major criminal cases. "Ontario is the first province to
have introduced standardized investigative practices and supporting technology
for major case investigations," said Bob Runciman, Minister of Public Safety
and Security. "It tracks and links related information between criminal cases
in single and multiple jurisdictions and makes the task of identifying serial
and predatory offenders much more effective.
The ITX Awards were launched in 1997 by CIO Canada to celebrate,
recognize and advance world class Canadian information technology (IT)
initiatives by promoting the concept of competitive advantage through IT
excellence and supporting the transfer of that knowledge to Canadian
businesses and future industry leaders.
