Funding Supports Niagara Food Festival WELLAND, ON, Sept. 9 /CNW/ - The Ontario government is supporting Welland's vitality by investing in the marketing of the Niagara Food Festival, Tourism and Recreation Minister Jim Bradley announced today. "Our government is committed to working with festival and event organizers to build on tourism experiences that attract regional and cross- border visitors," said Bradley. "These events inject visitors' dollars into local economies." The Ministry of Tourism and Recreation is providing $86,200 for the festival, which runs from September 24 to 26. The funding will be used to attract festival attendees from new markets including western New York, Ohio and Pennsylvania, and to expand domestic marketing efforts in Ontario and Quebec. "We are very pleased to partner with the Ministry of Tourism and Recreation," said Shane Sargant, Director of Special Events and Tourism for Tourism of Welland Niagara. "With the ministry's support, we are able to attract tourists from both United States and Canada and better position the festival for future growth." More than 31 restaurants participate in the festival, along with specialty food producers and Niagara wineries. "Events like the Niagara Food Festival are capable of attracting a significant number of overnight and weekend visitors," said Bradley. "The Ontario government recognizes the importance of festivals and events to tourism operators and local economies."
