Pilot Project Provides Free Fun Passes To Provincial Attractions TORONTO, July 11 /CNW/ - As part of the province's plan to keep kids learning and active this summer, the Ontario government is piloting a program that provides elementary students with one free admission to each of 15 provincial attractions, Health Promotion Minister Jim Watson announced today. "The McGuinty government is committed to promoting success and health for students every month of the year," said Watson. "Our attractions offer fun, interactive and educational experiences that will encourage students to continue to learn and stay active throughout the summer months." For the pilot, passes were distributed to almost 200,000 elementary school students in five Toronto-area public, Catholic, French and English school boards, together representing 15 per cent of all elementary school students in Ontario. More to Discover Fun Passes are good for one free children's general admission at each of 15 participating Ontario provincial attractions between Canada Day and Labour Day 2005. "We're pleased to help thousands of kids and their families enjoy Ontario's cultural and tourism attractions, while staying active and healthy," said Watson. Oliver Carroll, Chair of the Toronto Catholic District School Board, supports the McGuinty government's commitment to providing students with year-round opportunities for learning. "It's important that we provide fun opportunities for our students to learn and grow all year long," said Carroll. "We are happy to be part of a pilot program that provides our kids with an opportunity to explore new ideas, develop their knowledge and keep active during the summer." If successful, the project may be expanded next year to include more elementary school students next year in communities across the province. Disponible en français www.healthyontario.com
