McGuinty Government Continues To Boost Road Safety In Ontario
TORONTO, March 20 /CNW/ - Ontario plans to begin construction work to
improve safety and traffic flow on Highway 7 between Highway 7/115 and
Drummond Line, east of Peterborough, this spring.

Work includes:
- Adding left-turn lanes at intersections along Highway 7 between Keene
Road and Drummond Line and a second westbound left-turn lane at the
intersection of Highway 7/115/Lansdowne Street/Television Road
- Creating a left-turn lane in the centre of the highway that drivers
can access from both directions
- Lengthening the ramp from Highway 7/115 onto Highway 7

The construction contract for $13.9 million was awarded to J&P Leveque
Brothers Haulage Limited of Bancroft and should be complete by the end of June
2009. Work will be completed in stages to minimize disruption to drivers.
During construction, traffic will occasionally be reduced to a single lane in
each direction during off-peak hours. Two lanes in each direction will be
restored at night, during all holidays and weekends. To keep workers and
drivers safe, the speed limit on this section of Highway 7 will be reduced
from 80 km/hr to 60 km/hr. The OPP will assist with traffic control when
construction at signalized intersections is required.
