Children's Safety Village gets a boost

McGuinty Government Supports Niagara Region Children's Safety Village

    TORONTO, May 2 /CNW/ -

    NEWS

Ontario is providing $15,000 to help the Niagara Region Children's Safety
Village (http://www.niagarasafetyvillage.com/) expand its programming and
continue its work in teaching children about road safety.
About 15,000 school-age children visit the Niagara Region Children's
Safety Village annually to learn about safety and injury prevention through
hands-on experiences, taught by local police, fire and emergency medical
services personnel.
This one-time provincial funding is part of the Road Safety Community
Partnership Grant program. This Ministry of Transportation program provides
financial assistance for community-based road safety initiatives across the
province - such as seatbelt or child safety seat inspection clinics or
producing educational brochures.

    QUOTES

"Safety villages are an invaluable resource for communities, where our
children can learn road safety in a hands-on, interactive way - experiences
that leave a lasting impression. Together, we will help make our communities a
safer place for our children," said Transportation Minister Jim Bradley
(http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/about/minister.htm).
"The Niagara Region Children's Safety Village is an organization that the
Police Service is very much involved with and support wholeheartedly. The
safety village is an ideal venue for road safety instruction, and I look
forward to seeing it grow," said Wendy Southall, Chief of Police for the
Niagara Regional Police Service (http://www.nrps.com/main.asp).
