McGuinty Government Helps Municipalities Keep Their Roads In Good Repair TORONTO, July 3 /CNW/ - NEWS Ontario will repair Highway 118 this summer to improve driving conditions for the more than 1,300 drivers who use this highway each day. Work includes repaving an 11-kilometre stretch along Highway 118 in Highlands East and the County of Haliburton and improving the intersection at Legacy and Love Road. Highlands East and the Ministry of Transportation will also repave five municipal side roads. The $4.9-million construction contract was awarded to R.W. Tomlinson Limited of Ottawa and should be completed by fall 2008. During construction, traffic will be directed by a flag-person (http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/traveller/constructionzone.htm). Drivers may also have to travel on a gravel surface for a short period of time. Funding is distributed based on the municipalities' share of Ontario's road network in relation to population. - Since 2003, the McGuinty government has committed $9.3 billion in highways, roads and bridges and invested $6.2 billion in public transit.
