McGuinty Government Preserves Road Safety

New traffic signals with energy-efficient LED (Light Emitting Diode)
lights will be installed during the refurbishment of the Highway 401 and
Highbury Avenue intersection in London this summer.

Additional work includes:
- Repairing the bridge over Highway 401
- Improving the Highway 401 exit ramps to Highbury Avenue
- Repairing four kilometres of pavement on Highbury Avenue

Ontario and the City of London are completing this $6.5-million
construction project. The contract was awarded to Lafarge Paving &
Construction Limited of London and should be completed by late fall 2008.
During construction, traffic on Highbury Avenue, through the interchange area,
will be reduced to a single lane in each direction. At times, the exit ramps
at Highway 401 will be closed. Signs will be posted in advance to notify
drivers of closures.

support the local economy," said Transportation Minister Jim Bradley

"When the project is complete, the Highbury Avenue interchange will be
even safer and more reliable for area drivers," said Elgin-Middlesex-London
