McGuinty Government Keeps Ontario's Roads Safe TORONTO, July 21 /CNW/ - NEWS This summer, major construction work is planned on Highway 409 in Toronto to improve road safety. Work includes: << - Repaving Highway 409 for 4.7 kilometres from Highway 427 to Highway 401 - Fixing 13 bridges - structure, wall and deck repairs - to keep these bridges in top condition - Adding a new concrete median barrier, lighting, and upgrading traffic signals at various locations. >> The $64.8-million construction contract was awarded to Dufferin Construction Company of Oakville. The work should be complete by late summer 2011. Construction will be done with extended nightly lane closures. Lanes will be kept closed for 10 hours per night instead of eight so that more work can be completed overnight. Drivers may experience delays and should seek alternate routes. Signs will be posted in advance to prepare drivers for closures.
