McGuinty Government Keeps People And Goods Moving In The Ottawa Area TORONTO, July 31 /CNW/ - NEWS The first phase of construction to widen Highway 7 from two to four lanes between Highway 417 and Jinkinson Road in Ottawa was completed as planned and opened to traffic today. The widening project is divided into three phases to avoid disruption to traffic. The remaining phases will widen Highway 7 from: << - Jinkinson Road to west of Ashton Station Road (phase two) - now under construction and expected to be completed by fall 2010 - Ashton Station Road to McNeely Avenue, Carleton Place (phase three) - nearing detail design completion. Construction is expected to start in 2010 and be completed by fall 2011. >> The $48-million phase one construction contract was awarded to R.W. Tomlinson of Ottawa. Work began in summer 2006. QUOTES "This is great news for the more than 14,000 drivers who take Highway 7 every day.
