McGuinty Government Keeps Highways, Bridges In Renfrew County Safe TORONTO, Sept. 10 /CNW/ - NEWS Ontario will repair the Constable Philip Shrive and CPR Bridges on Highway 17 in Renfrew. These repairs will improve road safety for the more than 11,000 drivers who use these bridges each day. Work will be done on the bridge decks, barrier walls and guiderails. The project is expected to be complete by fall 2010. The government awarded the $7.3-million construction contract to R.W. Tomlinson Limited of Ottawa. An innovative construction technique called "Quick Moveable Temporary Barriers" will be used while the Constable Philip Shrive Bridge is being repaired. This operation allows a truck travelling at eight km/hr to lift and move a barrier in one continuous movement in less than five minutes. It will be used in the spring and fall to move the barriers separating the construction area from the travelled portion of the bridge allowing traffic to be opened to two lanes during all weekends. Highway 17, at the CPR Bridge, will be reduced to a single lane in each direction controlled by temporary traffic signals in the spring and fall. Signs will be posted in advance to notify drivers of delays. QUOTES "People in Renfrew County depend on the Constable Philip Shrive Bridge to get them to their homes, jobs and local businesses.
